Ruth G. Sharick, 91, of Chillicothe, formerly of Lacon, passed away at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Heartland Healthcare in Henry.
Ruth was born in Magnolia on September 30, 1917, a daughter of George and Laura (Fitchhorn) Thiel. She married Earl C. Sharick I on June 7, 1940 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her son, Earl Clayton “Buzz” Sharick II, on July 6, 2007, three brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen R. Childs of Peoria; grandsons, Richard “Skipp” (Suzanne) Harvey of San Jose, CA and Michael J. Sharick of Chillicothe; granddaughters, Beth Anne Diaz of Peoria, Kimberly Sharick and Denell (James) Moats of Rio Ranch, NM and Laura E. Sharick of Seattle, WA; great granddaughter, Jordan Moats; great grandsons, Nathan Moats, John and Samuel Diaz and Kaden Harvey; daughter-in-law, Marjorie R. Sharick of Chillicothe; step-grandson, Jay (Tracey) LeGrande of Kenosha, WI; step-granddaughters, Doriann Legrande of Chicago and Paula Baize of Chillicothe; and step-great granddaughters, Alexandria Gray and Brianna Baize.
Ruth was a homemaker and was formerly employed at R & K Market and Kurrle’s Department Store, both in Lacon.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, fishing on the river, spending time on her patio and she loved animals. She especially loved her grand children, great grandchildren and dogs. She loved taking day trips with her dog, Chester, to the Mississippi River.
Ruth loved to travel and used to live in the Panama Canal Zone. She went to the Amish Country in Pennsylvania and drove across the country with her husband to visit her sister in Alaska. She enjoyed taking trips to California to visit her grandchildren. She also vacationed in Jamaica with her son, Buzz, and daughter-in-law, Maggie. Her favorite trips were to The Bad Lands, The Black Hills, Mount Rushmore and to Yellowstone National Park with her family.
Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009, at Lacon Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home in Peoria.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s memory to Heartland Healthcare in Henry.
